During the 1st Semester Saint Joe awarded four of our seniors and two staff members Saint Joseph Community Awards for the months of September and October. Here’s a recap and some information on the winners!

September: 

Saint Joe’s male community award winner for the month of September was Emanuel Alaniz. Manny is involved in Student Ambassadors, NHS, Peer Mentor, Football, and Track and Field. He is described as a very caring young man. Marie Achkar was the female community award winner for the month of September. Marie was described as a very hands on and enthusiastic student. She is involved in cheerleading, she’s  president of FBLA, and an intern at redeemer radio station. Our Staff Community Award Winner was Deb Brown. Mrs Brown has worked at Saint Joe for 5 years after her position as Girls Volleyball Head Coach at Arizona State and Notre Dame. She was Captain of the USA Women’s Olympic, National and Junior National volleyball teams and Carried the Olympic torch through South Bend in 2002. Mrs Brown has worked hard in order to ensure student athletes are able to participate in fall and winter sports through this crazy year. 

October:

Saint Joe’s male community award winner for the month of October was Onur Toper was captain of the Boys Tennis team and organized voter registration drives at Saint Joseph High School in fall and spring of 2020. Onur plans on studying international relations in college. Tea Lazareto was the female community award winner. Tea is a 4 year member of the Tennis team, part of NHS, Art club and has made the theology and science Hall murals. Alisha Franstead was our Staff Community award winner. Mrs Franstead has been at SJ for 2 years and is the Head Volleyball Coach and Assistant Track Coach and is also moderator of  SADD Club. One student said that she “Always comes to school with a smile and a willingness to help.”
