Still Woozy is an artist I personally love, one who has been releasing singles since 2017. However, his first album finally came out in 2021. Titled “If This Isn’t Nice, I Don’t Know What Is,” the album is a wonderful collection of songs, with topics ranging from love to death, and all in this wonderful quiet funk genre. Here, I will discuss what makes the album stand out.
The style of the album is the main thing that sets it apart from a lot of other summery pop albums. The combination of catchy lyrics, sunny synthesizers, and funky bass lines really makes Still Woozy’s sound unique. On top of this summery sound and catchy hooks, the lyrics themselves actually have a really solid meaning to them. In the opening track, “Woof,” he sings:
“You wouldn’t last a day in my brain,
You’d probably go insane,”
This being the hook of the song, many people could miss it and not realize that he’s talking about something substantial.
However, just because I like the artist doesn’t mean that Still Woozy is flawless. There are a couple of weak songs on the album, like track 6, “Before You Were Mine,” or track 7, “Drake.” In addition to these weak points, several of the songs sound pretty similar. The style is distinct, unique, and unyielding throughout the album. If this sound isn’t for you, then the album is going to be a wash. By the 7th time you’ve heard a song in this style, your ears yearn for something different. Instead, the album keeps chugging. By no means are the songs bad, it just could use some variety.
Overall, the songs are good and a great easy-listen album. I rate it a 7/10.
