Exciting news, Saint Joe! The 2023-2024 musical has been announced! This year, the Saint Joe theatre department will put on the classic show, Fiddler on the Roof!
Fiddler on the Roof is a classic golden-age musical written in the 1960s with music by Jerry Bock. The show follows a poor Jewish farmer, his wife, and five daughters in their run-down town in 1900s Russia. The farmer’s three oldest daughters long to be married to good men during a time when arranged marriages were the norm, but unexpected circumstances and the daughter’s strong wills lead them to find their own way rather than accepting what is expected of them. While their decisions cause unrest in the family, they also have to face greater challenges, such as the threat of eviction for Jews from the Russian tsar.
Fiddler on the Roof explores family, tradition, and faith, making it a perfect show for the Saint Joe community. Auditions will be held in late November. Sign-ups for the chorus will also be available. The show has no cuts, so everyone who is interested and signs up or auditions will be cast!
If you have never acted before, no worries! Saint Joe theatre is always open for everyone, no matter their experience! In past years, seniors have joined the musical just for the experience, and all of them have loved it! Saint Joe theatre is a great place to build and embrace community and creativity, especially if you are new to it.
We hope to see you at auditions, Saint Joe!
